Join us Wednesday, May 20th for ARCADE's first ever exclusive membership experience at Shibuya HiFi. Hosted by Charles Mudede and Studio Q, ARCADE members will get a private listening experience featuring curated, rare vinyl showcasing urban soundscapes from Taxi Driver to Built. This ticketed event supports ARCADE by bringing together our membership for a unique experience developed in partnership exclusively for you.
Our goal at Shibuya HiFi is simple: To place our guests in the midst of a high-fidelity sound experience that offers a reset from the static and the noise of the modern world. Drawing on a deep love of vinyl records, an eye for impeccable interior design, an ear for sound and over a collective century of immersion in nightlife, Shibuya HiFi features an elevated cocktail and listening experience that pays homage to music lovers from Berlin to Ballard. By facing our guests toward the past — specifically toward our Luxman L-505uXii or mint condition Klipschorns in our vinyl only HiFi Room — we hope to guide them toward a future of listening to music in a thoughtful and generous way. We believe in listening to music the way it was meant to be heard.
Charles Mudede—who writes about film, books, music, and his life in Rhodesia, Zimbabwe, the USA, and the UK for The Stranger—was born near a steel plant in Kwe Kwe, Zimbabwe. He has no memory of this birth, but he does remember noticing himself in the mirror for this first time—it happened on May 3, 1972. Mudede is also a filmmaker: Two of his films, Police Beat and Zoo, premiered at Sundance, and Zoo was screened at Cannes. Mudede directed Thin Skin, and has written for the New York Times, Cinema Scope, Ars Electronica, C Theory, and academic journals. He also wrote the liner notes for Best of Del Tha Funkee Homosapien: Elektra Years. Mudede has lived in Seattle since 1989.
ARCADE members are proponents of and advocates for the built environment and Seattle’s vibrant arts & culture community. They are design-industry allied practitioners, cultural writers, literary professionals, and students; they are award-winning, curious leaders in their respective industries, and individuals who take an active interest in design, architecture, and community building. Our members believe in the power of dialogue and the impact great design can have on our everyday lives.
