About Stipends
ARCADE, while being incorporated for over 40 years, has undergone an important revitalization and launched multiple new projects through the generous financial support of our board leadership, grants, and sponsorships. We are thrilled to be able to offer these small positions with limited hours and stipends for creative labor. ARCADE's journalist, editorial, and design budget accounts for over 75% of our total annual budget - we fundraise and write grants to provide at least some financial support to publishing professionals, designers, and journalists. Our current compensation structure is based on available resources - as more funding becomes available, the stipends we offer will increase. Our editorial values are rooted in exploration, collaboration, dedication of spirit, good humor, a supportive environment, and cheese.
ARCADE NW Publishing was founded in 1981 by graduates of the University of Washington's College of Built Environment and specializes in architecture, design, civic life, the arts and urban living.

Since it's founding, the publication has taken on a variety of forms, starting as a calendar of events and happenings, and evolving into an academic journal featuring both essayists, theory, concept exploration, and criticism.

We center students, emerging and established professionals, and art and design enthusiasts thinking critically about the built environment, issues of design, and all creative endeavors.

ARCADE is based in Seattle, Washington and is run by a small but mighty team of editors and designers.
